MAKING SERVICE AN ACTION ITEM
Power plants require precise, continual operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So when a crucial device or component requires repair or replacement, speed, quality and time are of the utmost importance.
Quadna, a DXP Company, has proven its excellent track record in the field of Babbitt bearing repair having served such notable energy companies as SRP Coronado, Tri State Generation, Basin Electric, Pacificorp Wyodak, Intermountain Power and Arizona Electric Power Company, among others. Recently, Tri State Generation, which has a power plant in Craig, Colo., made an emergency call to Quadna for a Babbitt bearing repair. According to Jim Jenkins, area manager for Quadna’s Salt Lake City Babbitt bearing repair center, and Rob Giese, branch manager for the company’s Grand Junction, Colo., operation, the power giant called for help on a Sunday evening saying it needed five turbine bearings repaired and overhauled in under 10 days. The team secured the bearings and return repaired the bearings in mint condition in less than one week.
Shortly after the rush repair, Quadna was contacted by another major power distribution, SRP Navajo, which is located in Page, Ariz. The power plant had been conducting general maintenance when a critical bearing became ruined. Jenkins happened to be traveling near the plant that afternoon and stopped in to assess the rush situation. He decided to spend the night so the bearing could cool down, then loaded it for a trip to the Salt Lake City, Utah repair facility the following day. The repaired bearing was delivered two days later.
“One of the keys to Quadna’s success in working with its power plant clientele is that we understand and respond to rush turnaround requirements,” says Jenkins. “Proving a quality product is understood. However, we take pride in, and excel at, saving our customers time, transportation needs and we get the job done faster because of our expertise and commitment to meeting their unique needs.”
